Nicolas Grunitzky

Nicolas Grunitzky ( born April 5, 1913 in Atakpamé; † September 27, 1969 in Paris) was an engineer and Togolese politicians German - African descent.

Grunitzky studied civil engineering at the ESTP in Paris. He was the founder of the Parti togolais You for progress (PTP ). In the elections to the National Assembly in Paris, he was in 1951 and in 1956 elected as MP for Togo.

After Togo was granted by the French colonial government in August 1956 extensive internal autonomy, Grunitzky was elected on 12 September 1956 to the first Prime Minister of the country. After the elections in 1958, the Comité de l' unité togolaise (CUT) decided in his favor, replaced its chairman, Grunitzkys brother Sylvanus Olympio, him in the office of Prime Minister from.

On January 13, 1963 coup, the army, including General Etienne Eyadema, and murdered President Olympio. Grunitzky was used by the military as the new rulers. Four years later, on 13 January 1967 there was a re- coup. Grunitzky was deposed and fled to Côte d' Ivoire, where he was killed two years later in a car accident and died a short time later in a hospital in Paris.
