Nicolaus Olahus

Miklós Oláh (also Nicolaus Oláh, Nicolaus Olahus or Olahus Nicholas, born January 10, 1493 Sibiu, † January 15, 1568 in Nagyszombat ) was a Hungarian archbishop, writer, politician and theologian.

Life

1543 he was appointed by Ferdinand I to the royal chancellor and bishop of Agram. Five years later he became bishop of Eger, before he was ordained in 1553 to the Archbishop of Gran. As such, he led in 1563 by the coronation of Maximilian as King of Hungary. Oláh was the first counter- reformer after the spread of the Reformation in Hungary.
