Nicoll Fosdick

Nicoll Fosdick (* November 9, 1785 in New London, Connecticut; † May 7, 1868 ) was an American politician. Between 1825 and 1827 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Nicoll Fosdick was born about two years after the end of the American Revolutionary War in New London County. He completed his preliminary studies. Fosdick moved to Norway (New York). In the presidential elections of 1816 he ran as an elector for James Monroe. In the years 1818 and 1819 he sat in the New York State Assembly.

As a result of fragmentation of the Democratic-Republican Party before and during the presidency of John Quincy Adams (1825-1829), he joined the Adams Group. In the congressional elections of 1824 for the 19th Congress Fosdick in the 20th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Ela Collins and Egbert Ten Eyck on March 4, 1825. He retired after March 3, 1827 from the Congress.

He returned in 1843 to New London back. Between 1849 and 1853, he worked as a tax collector (Collector of Customs ). He also went to stores. He died about three years after the end of the Civil War in New London. His body was buried in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
