Nigel Forbes, 22nd Lord Forbes

Nigel Ivan Forbes, 22nd Lord Forbes, KBE, JP, DL ( born February 19, 1918 † March 5, 2013 ), until 1953 known as the Master of Forbes, was a Scottish soldier, businessman and politician of the Conservative Party.

Forbes was the only son of Atholl Laurence Cunyngham Forbes, 21, Lord Forbes, and his wife Lady Mabel, daughter of Thomas Francis Anson, 3rd Earl of Lichfield. He went to Harrow School and the Royal Military College at Sandhurst.

During the Second World War, he was a Major in the Grenadier Guards and was wounded. From 1947 to 1948 he was Military Assistant to the High Commissioner of Palestine. He inherited the peerage in 1953 by his father, was appointed in 1955 to the Scottish Representative Peer and got a seat at the Conservatives in the House of Lords. Under Harold Macmillan from 1958 to 1959 he was Minister of State for Scotland. In addition to the country's politics, he was from 1955 to 1958 and a member of the District Council of Alford, Aberdeenshire and 1962-1972 Chairman of the River Don District Board. In 1955 he was justice of the peace in Aberdeenshire and 1958 Deputy Lieutenant.

1960 to 1988 was director of Grampian Television, 1964-1974 Deputy Chairman of Tennent Caledonian Breweries and 1975 to 1998 Chairman of Rolawn Ltd. He got in 1960 the Order of the British Empire (KBE ).

He married, 1942, the Honorable Rosemary Katharine, a daughter of Gustavus William Hamilton - Russell, 9th Viscount Boyne. With her he had two sons and one daughter: the eldest son of the Honorable Malcolm Nigel Forbes, Master of Forbes, resides in Castle Forbes.
