Nika Gilauri

Nikoloz ( Nika ) Gilauri (Georgian ნიკოლოზ ( ნიკა ) გილაური; born February 14, 1975 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian politician. From February 2004 to August 2007 he was Minister of Energy, September 2007-February 2009 Minister of Finance of Georgia. From 6 February 2009 to 30 June 2012, he was Georgian Prime Minister.

Life

Nika Gilauri studied at the Tbilisi State University economics and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Trade. He then studied economics and finance at the University of Limerick in Limerick (Ireland). At Temple University in Philadelphia, USA, he obtained a Master of Arts ( BA) in International Business Management.

1999 worked for the Dublin International Financial Centre and for the fund management company Invesco. In 2000 he was financial adviser for energy-saving projects at the Philadelphia Small Business Development Centre. A year later, he returned to Georgia, advised the telephone company Telecom Georgia in financial matters. In 2002, he advised the Spanish energy company Iberdrola, which had invested in Georgia. In 2003 and 2004 he worked as a financial controller for operating in Georgia Irish energy company ESBI.

After the Rose Revolution Gilauri was on 17 February 2004, first Secretary of Energy. After a series of blackouts between December 2004 and February 2005 had been speculated about an early discharge Gilauris. However Gilauri presented a program to overcome the Engeriekrise. In 2006, he played a key role in the negotiations with Azerbaijan and Iran over the setting of gas supplies to Georgia. In March 2006, caused his announcement of a possible sale of the Georgian gas network to the Russian company Gazprom to a dispute with the United States. He later backtracked, claiming that there had been no negotiations with Gazprom.

On September 7, 2007, he became Minister of Finance of Georgia, in December 2008, Vice - Premier. Following the resignation Grigol Mgaloblischwilis by the Office of the Prime Minister was nominated as his successor Nika Gilauri of President Mikheil Saakashvili. The Georgian parliament approved the proposal on 6 February 2009. President Saakashvili nominated June 30, 2012 his successor Vano Merabishvili as head of government. Gilauri was appointed chief of state private equity fund JSC Partnership Fund.
