Nikita Magaloff (born 8 Februarjul / February 21 1912greg in Saint Petersburg, Russia;. . † 26 December 1992, Vevey, Switzerland ) was a Swiss pianist and interpreter of Chopin and Liszt piano works.

Life

During the October Revolution left his family in Russia, went to Finland for four years before she moved to Paris. Here was Magaloff students of Isidor Philip ( who had studied even with a pupil of Chopin ) and Alexander Ziloti ( Liszt pupil ) at the Conservatoire de Paris and studied composition with the likewise fled to Paris Sergei S. Prokofiev. Its particular patron but was Maurice Ravel, who encouraged the young pianist to come to terms with contemporary piano music. His later successful career has taken him around the world. Invitations Magaloff always got back to the festivals in Salzburg, Edinburgh, Berlin, Zurich and Lausanne. In 1949 he took over as the successor of Dinu Lipatti the piano master class at the Conservatoire de musique de Genève. With the pianist Clara Haskil and the Hungarian violinist Joseph Szigeti, whose daughter he married, he played chamber music. He last lived on Lake Geneva. Famous pianists like Maria Tipo and Ingrid Haebler were his pupils.

Gained fame Magaloff by the cyclic performance of the complete piano works of Chopin, which he recorded in 1989 in the Bösendorfer SE as MIDI data. He also was an excellent interpreter of Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Liszt and Stravinsky. His interpretations of the piano works of Stravinsky were outstanding. It would appear he has recorded the first whose Concerto for Piano and Wind Orchestra and Capriccio for piano and orchestra each with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, conducted by Ernest Ansermet for the plate. In 1985 he was also an excellent, re-released in 2006 recording of the concerto for piano and wind orchestra with the NDR Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Günter Wand. In general, his interpretations have been underestimated according to recent findings by German critics by far.
