Nikki Yanofsky

Nikki Yanofsky ( born February 8, 1994, Montreal, Quebec ) is a Canadian jazz and pop singer. She sang at the opening of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, the Canadian national anthem and I Believe, the theme song of CTV for the occasion.

Life and work

Yanofsky grew up in Montreal. As a so-called child prodigy who mastered including the scat singing, she joined in 2006 at the Montreal Jazz Festival with well-known musicians; also in the following years, she was invited to this festival. Produced by Tommy LiPuma your interpretation of Airmail Special was on the Verve album We All Love Ella 2007: published Celebrating the First Lady of Song; so Yanofsky was the youngest singer who ever recorded for the label. Then she took on the song Gotta Go My Own Way for High School Musical 2. She also played with Herbie Hancock and will.i.am the standard Stompin 'at the Savoy for Kareem Abdul- Jabbar's audio book On the Shoulders of Giants: My Journey Through the Harlem Renaissance one, which was published in 2008.

With Marvin Hamlisch, she performed at Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in February 2008. In Toronto she sang in the same year with the Count Basie Orchestra. In addition, she has performed at the Ottawa Jazz and Blues Festival, on the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival and the Ginza International Jazz Festival in Japan. She has also appeared with Oliver Jones, Wyclef Jean and Céline Dion.

2008 she performed at the Montreal Jazz Festival Songs of Ella Fitzgerald; the performance was released as her debut album, Ella ... of Thee I Swing. The album received good reviews and was nominated twice for the 2009 Juno Award. In 2009 she was honored as Favourite Jazz Artist at the Canadian Independent Music Awards.

I Believe, their debut single was released on the opening day of the Winter Games in Vancouver and had on the same day his first broadcast on the radio; a week later, the song was already high download speeds and strong airplay number one on the Canadian charts. Her first studio album was released in North America in early summer and in Europe in autumn 2010. At the Montreux Jazz Festival 2010, she was jamming at the request of Quincy Jones together with Herbie Hancock.
