Niklas Nordgren

Niklas Nordgren ( born June 28, 1979 in Örnsköldsvik ) is a Swedish professional ice hockey player who was most recently at Timrå IK in the Swedish Elitserien under contract.

Career

Nordgren was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1997 in the eighth round at 195th position from the Carolina Hurricanes. After he had previously played for MODO Hockey Örnsköldsvik, IF Sundsvall Hockey and Timrå IK in the Swedish Elitserien and HockeyAllsvenskan, he gave in the 2005/06 season his debut in the National Hockey League. In 43 games for Carolina, he scored four goals and had two assists. Shortly before the trade deadline but was discharged together with Krystofer Kolanos to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the experienced Mark Recchi sent to Carolina in return. For Pittsburgh, he completed 15 more games in the season, in which he remained no points.

From 2006 to 2011 Nordgren played at the Rapperswil -Jona Lakers of the Swiss National League A.

In December 2010 it was announced that Nordgren will switch to the 2011/2012 season to the Kloten Flyers, there to replace Kimmo Rintanen, whose contract was not renewed.
