Niko Pucić

Niko Pucić ( born February 9, 1820 Dubrovnik, Dalmatia, † March 13, 1883 ) was a Croatian politician and journalist and brother of the writer Medo Pucić ( 1821-1882 ).

Because of the illness of his father Niko Pucić gave up his studies and lived from 1838 in Dubrovnik. He managed the family estates, but also undertook long journeys. Like his brother, he maintained relations with the representatives of the political and cultural life in the monarchy, especially in Banal Croatia, and after 1860 was the active representatives of the national movement in Dalmatia. As a Dalmatian and Croatian state representative (1861 ) he was a collaboration with the Cabinet shear Ling positively. From 1867 to 1869 he was vice-president of the Dalmatian Parliament. After he retired from politics and took part only in the cultural life. Pucić was the first editor of the newspaper " Dubrovnik" and was in 1878 one of the founders of the newspaper " Slovinac ".
