Nikolai Baibakov

Nikolai Konstantinovich Baibakov (Russian Николай Константинович Байбаков; * Februarjul 22 / 7 March 1911greg in Sabuntschi, Azerbaijan, .. † 31 March 2008 in Moscow ) was a Soviet politician and for many years chairman of Gosplan, the State Planning Committee of the USSR.

Life

Baibakov studied in 1932 at the Economic Institute of Azerbaijan. He was from 1952 to 1961 and from 1966 to 1986 member of the Central Committee of the CPSU. In 1953 he became Minister for the oil industry in the cabinet of Georgi Malenkov. From 1963 to 1965 he was Minister for chemistry.

Baibakov was from 1955 to 1958 and then again from 1965 to 1985 - so for 24 years - Chairman of the State Committee for planning the USSR ( Gosplan ). The main tasks of this committee for economic planning lay in the creation of the five-year plan of the USSR. As chairman of Gosplan Baibakov was from 1957 Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Russian SFSR and in the cabinets of Alexei Kosygin and Nikolai Tikhonov in the period from 1965 to 1985 and Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR. His predecessor as chief of Gosplan was Saburov and his successor Nikolai Talysin.

Baibakov received the Order of Hero of Socialist Labor, Order of Merit for the Fatherland, Order of Lenin (6 times), Order of the October Revolution, Order of the Red Banner of Labor ( 2 times) and the Lenin Prize in 1963.

Baibakov was married to N.K. Baibakowa.
