Nikolaos Vokos

Vokos Nikolaos (Greek Νικόλαος Βώκος, * 1854 on Hydra; † August 7, 1902 in Paleo Faliro ) was a Greek painter and sculptor, and representatives of the Munich school

Life

Nikolaos Vokos was born on Hydra, his father was Emmanouil Miaoulis, his grandfather Andreas Miaoulis, both very famous admirals. After a short time on a cadet school he moved Nikolaos Vokos ago to study art. He took the nickname " Miaoulis " not, but led his official last name " Vokos ". After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Athens, he went to Munich, where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in the class of Andreas Müller, Ludwig Löfftz and Nikolaos Gysis. After graduation, he worked for 16 years in Munich and went after a serious illness to Athens, where he died in the suburb of Paleo Faliro.

Work

Vokos painted almost exclusively still lifes, quantitatively, he left only a few works and also took part in only a few exhibitions. He avoided to paint people, although these works are considered his most important. The work of the " fishmonger " was purchased by Prince Regent Luitpold, after it had won before in Chicago a price.
