Nikolay Dukhonin

Nikolai Nikolayevich Dukhonin (Russian Николай Николаевич Духонин; * 1.jul / December 13 1876greg Smolensk province, .. .. † 20 Novemberjul / December 3 1917greg in Mogilev ) was the last commander-in -chief of the Imperial Russian Army.

As a senior officer he was after the attempted military coup of General Kornilov in September 1917 in its place to the commander in chief of the Russian army. Since he did not respond to the Lenin's order to stop the war against the Central Powers, he was assassinated on November 20 at the headquarters of STAVKA in Mogilev by Red Guards led by Nikolai Krylenko. Krylenko was determined by Lenin as his successor at the head of the armed forces.
