Nilson Matta

Nilson Matta (* March 1, 1949 in São Paulo) is a Brazilian, living in the United States jazz musician (double bass, bass guitar, synthesizers ) and composer.

Life and work

Matta came in 1970 with Bass study in Rio de Janeiro and worked from the early 1980s, with musicians such as João Bosco, Hermeto Pascoal, Chico Buarque Luis Bonfa or. After his move to New York in 1985, he played with Paquito D' Rivera and Others, Don Pullens African- Brazilian Connection ( Kele Mou Bana, 1992), Paul Winter / Oscar Castro- Neves (Brazilian Days 1998), Kenny Barron, Cyro Baptista, Joe Henderson and Yo- Yo Ma. With Romero Lubambo and Duduka da Fonseca in 1989 he formed the Trio Paz since 2006, he took in a duo with Hendrik Meurkens the album on Encontros (Meetings ), were added guest musicians such as Dado Moroni. In the field of jazz Matta worked 1980-2011 at 57 recording sessions; By Steve Wilson and singer Leny Andrade, he joined in 2013 with the Black Orpheus program, inspired by Antonio Carlos Jobim's film Orfeu Negro soundtrack of 1959.
