Beginning

No Limit Records was in the late 1980s by former students of economics in the Merritt Oakland Junior College, founded Master P as a record store in Richmond. The starting capital, $ 10,000, he inherited from his grandfather. Through his work in the shop, he learned that many customers were very interested in gangsta rap - but turned to this time many labels of this genre, since they did not want to expose the controversy on this type of rap music due to the explicit texts triggered. In this knowledge, he expanded the concept of the store in 1990 and turned it into a record label. The first release was his own solo album Get Away Clean the following year.

Success

In 1994, the label, the first sales success. Both Master Ps third album The Ghettos Tryin To Kill Me!, As in particular the compilation West Coast Bad Boyz, Vol 1 were underground successes. On the last-named album were, among others, Rappin ' 4 -Tay and E-40 to hear just before they were well known US -wide. As a result, the label moved to New Orleans, Master Ps birthplace, and built its own production team, Beats by the Pound, on that worked on every release. Official Cover Designer Pen & Pixel were from Houston, whose cover was distinguished by excessive use of Photoshop wild with garish designs. Thus, a unique style was created, which was the same on all albums. Even now many rappers were under contract, whose albums were produced and released very quickly, sometimes within a period of only 2 weeks. This appeared within a year up to 10 albums on the label. The first album, released on the Billboard 200 was finally in 1995 the compilation Down South Hustlers. The final breakthrough came then with Master Ps album Ice Cream Man, the gold record in 2002 and even received a platinum record by the RIAA in 1996. Then also the other artists of the label sold similarly well, although their music was rarely played on the radio or on television. Moreover, now the rap star Snoop Dogg has been obtained for the label and made thus with even greater attention.

End
