NO!art

NO! 's A radical avant -garde and anti-art movement, which started in 1959 in New York and the complacent consumer society dealt a shock.

Boris Lurie, Sam Goodman and Stanley Fisher initially organized exhibitions at the March Gallery, New York, from which art the NO! Movement was born, named after a show at the Gallery Gertrude Stein. They were directed here against the current trends such as Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art in the art and used their work to attack fascism, racism and imperialism in politics.

The NO art! Shows had titles like Doom show, Involvement Show, no show and Vulgar show and were usually thematically, the No. Sculptures / Shit Show of 1964, also contained works from excrement. The Holocaust was a recurring theme of the artist, and they named their works often provocative as " Jewish art ".

In his essay " Bull by the Horns " wrote the art critic Harold Rosenberg, " NO! Reflects the mix of scum and crime that flood the mass media the minds of our time."
