Noilly Prat

Noilly Prat [ nwaji pʁat ] is a French vermouth, form the base of two white wines ( Clairette and Picpoul de Pinet ) from southern France. Noilly Prat is regarded as more aromatic than other vermouth, it is, for example, only a small amount needed for flavoring.

The company and the work Noilly Prat sale are located in the southern French village of Marseillan.

The name comes from Joseph Noilly, who developed the recipe, and Claudius Prat, the partner of the company was. Noilly Prat was founded in 1813 in Marseillan. While Antonio Benedetto Carpano can rightly claim to have produced the first Italian ( sweet ) vermouth, Noilly Prat so deserves this glory for the first French ( dry ) vermouth. Noilly Prat 1853 was first exported to the USA, where he has been until now the leading French Vermouth. In 1971 the company was bought by Martini & Rossi, which was in turn acquired by Bacardi in 1993. Today Noilly Prat is led by François Bonnardel, a great-great- grandson of Noilly -Prat - founder. Sales in Germany is done by Bacardi Germany.

Noilly Prat is aged in oak casks, among other things, also a year in the open air. Besides the French Noilly Prat Extra Dry is building the two fine sweet varieties Rouge and Blanc. Relatively new is the version Ambre, but which is only sold in the region. The aroma is slightly chocolaty. Others refer to it rather than spicy sweet. It can be enjoyed either cold or at room temperature.
