Nonet (music)

A Nonet (from Latin Nonus: " ninth " ) is in the music, a group of nine performers or a piece of music for such a group. A typical line-up is the wind quintet with flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon along with four strings: violin, viola, cello and double bass.

Significant Nonets wrote for example: Louis Spohr ( Nonet in F major, Op 31 ), Franz Lachner ( Nonet in F major ), Louise Farrenc, Joseph Rheinberger, Bohuslav Martinů and Alois Haba.

Another occupation is found in Charles Gounod ( Petite symphonie for 9 Wind Instruments ): 1 flute, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 horns.
