The Norfolk Airport ( English Norfolk International Airport ) is an airport located in Norfolk, Virginia.

History

In 1938, the city of Norfolk on the Truxton Manor Golf Course Norfolk Municipal Airport was built with a 3500 feet (about 1000 meters) long airstrip and the former clubhouse as a terminal building. After Penn Central Airlines, a predecessor of today's United Airlines, had taken Norfolk to its network in 1940 a new terminal was inaugurated.

1942 took over the United States Army Air Corps from the airport. In order to be able to handle the high number of flights and the larger aircraft, the Air Corps extended the airstrip and built two additional. 1947, the airport was transferred back to the City of Norfolk and resumed civilian air traffic.

In 1948, Piedmont Airlines regular connections to Cincinnati on; in the same year began the construction of a new terminal building, which was inaugurated in 1951. 1968 Norfolk was determined to the airport the Hampton Roads region and renamed Norfolk Regional Airport.

After the airport in 1974 received a new terminal building and 1976 facilities for customs clearance, it was renamed the Norfolk International Airport in 1976. In the 1980s, the Norfolk Airport has been supplemented by a new terminal for general aviation and a new air cargo terminal; the passenger terminal in 1991 expanded and supplemented to an arrivals building in June 2002.

In 2009, 3.4 million passengers used the airport Norfolk. There are scheduled flights to destinations within the United States.
