The Noric is a mainland Celtic language. It is filled in only two fragments from the Roman province of Noricum. A fragment was found in Grafstein ( Austria ), the other in Ptuj (Slovenia).

The Norische probably has close parallels to the Gallic. When this language became extinct, is not known.

Pettauer inscription

The Ptuj ( Ptuj ) inscription, discovered in 1894, is written in the ancient Italic alphabet.

" ARTEBUDZBROGDUI "

" Artebudz [ son of ] Brogduos. "

The name Artebudz could mean "bear penis " while Brogduos could be derived from brog, mrog " country ". Alternatively, the inscription could also be interpreted as follows: Artebudz [ made for the ] Brogdos, the second name would be in the dative case.

Grafensteiner inscription

The Grafensteiner inscription on a tile from the 2nd century AD, was found in a gravel pit in 1977. It is incomplete and therefore allows various interpretations.

" MOGE · ES [ P · II · LAV EX [ NE * SAḌỊÍES [ OLLO · SO · VILO [ Ona C [...] OLLO · · SO? [ P LṾGNṾ · SI "

This Moge P · II - lav seems to be a personal name, a Latin abbreviation for a weight sadiíes ne a verb with the possible meaning " not set", ollo so maybe " this amount " and Lugnu another persons name. The text could therefore be a record of any financial transaction.

There other ways of reading the inscription were still recited, for example:

" MOGE · ES [ ---] PET (?) LAV EX [ ---] NE · SCARY [ ---] OLLO · SO · · VILO [ ---] ONA O (? ) OLLO · SO · LVGNI · SI "

And

" MOGV · CISS [--- PETILAV · IEX [--- NE · SADIIES [--- OLLO · SO · · VILO [--- ONA DOM ... OC [ OLLO · SO · VIA. [ ILVGNV.SI ["
