Norrtälje

Norrtälje is a town in the Swedish province of Stockholm County and the historic province of Uppland.

The city on the Baltic Sea is located about 68 kilometers north of Stockholm and is the capital of the municipality of the same name.

In Norrtälje is one of the largest and most modern prisons Sweden, Norrtäljeanstalten.

History

Norrtälje was founded in 1622 by Gustav II Adolf and 1719 as many Swedish maritime towns burnt down by the Russians.
