North Adams is a town in Berkshire County in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. North Adams is part of the Metropolitan Statistical Area of Pittsfield (Massachusetts ). With 13,708 inhabitants it is one of the smallest city in the state. North Adams is known as the seat of the largest museum of contemporary art throughout the United States, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA ).

North Adams is located in the valley of the Hoosic River and was founded in 1745, during King George 's War. North Adams is independent of Adams, but both are named after Samuel Adams.

For a long time North Adams industrial city. The textile company Arnold was forced to close during the Great Depression, the other major employer, the Sprague Electric Company, introduced in 1985 ceased operation.

Education

1894 North Adams Normal School was established, now the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts ( MCLA ) with more than 2000 students.
