North American T-28 Trojan

The T-28 Trojan is a produced by North American Aviation training aircraft.

History

The U.S. Air Force was looking for the end of the 1940s a new trainer aircraft to replace the North American AT -6 ( in service with the Royal Air Force as " Harvard " means ). North American presented after the award in 1948 his design NA -159, then two prototypes were ordered by the recordings and as XT -28 on 26 September 1949, the flight test.

1950 ordered the U.S. Air Force 266 series machines T -28A ( with the 588 -kW seven-cylinder radial engine Wright R -1300 -1A and two-blade propeller ), which should serve the basic training. A total of 1194 pieces were produced of this series, which were sold and used outside the United States.

The U.S. Air Force studied the T- 28 made in 1956 in favor of the Beechcraft T- 34 Mentor, where the machines were sold to many air forces around the world. She remained in the U.S. Navy until 1984 in use.

Use

Several versions were ( eight T- 28B initially) in South Vietnam, France in Algeria and during the civil war in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1964 successfully used in November 1961 as a ground attack aircraft.

Today, many machines that are often found on flying airshows.

Specifications

The T-28 is a low-wing monoplane with tandem cockpit ( flight instructor and student sit in a row). It has a three-part each simply frosted and retractable landing gear. For training purposes, external loads can be carried on two underwing pylons under the wings.
