The Mounties of Lynx River ( Original title: North of 60 ) is a Canadian television series that originally aired from 1992 to 1997 on CBC and moved five television movies by yourself. Developed by Wayne Grigsby and Barbara Samuels series is about life in a small town in the Northwest Territories, with an RCMP officer as the main character. Characters and their performers belong predominantly to the First Nations. The Mounties of Lynx River was conceived as a police series and includes elements of soap opera and docudrama.

The series includes 90 episodes in six seasons and was shown around the world. In Germany, limited to 32 episodes dubbed version ran in 1999 to premiere.

Plot and the characters

Scene of action is the fictional small town of Lynx River, which is mainly inhabited by indigenous peoples of Canada. The plot of the consequences arising out of criminal cases, central problems within the community of First Nations in the north, the personal lives of the main characters and the surrounding wilderness. A central character of the first two seasons was Eric Olssen, a white police officer from Vancouver, which can be offset by Lynx River and must learn to cope in the new environment. After his departure from the series remained his colleague, Constable Michelle Kenidi, as the leading role. Her brother Peter is the local chief. As a permanent opponent Michelle Kenidis acts of criminals Albert Golo.

Production and broadcasting

The Mounties of Lynx River originated from an idea by Wayne Grigsby and Barbara Samuels. The series is a joint production of CBC, Alliance Films and Alberta Filmworks and was primarily funded by the state agency Telefilm. Location was the town of Bragg Creek in Alberta.

December 3, 1992 to December 18, 1997 ran 90 episodes in six seasons on CBC. This was followed by the TV movies with the original titles in the Blue Ground ( 1999), Trial by Fire ( 2000), Dream Storm ( 2001), Another Country (2003) and Distant Drumming ( 2005). The series and the films were provided by the broadcasters around the world. In Germany, limited to 32 episodes version ran in 1999 to premiere.

Awards

The television series was nominated in 1994 and 1998 in numerous categories for the Gemini Award. A total of five times the price could be obtained. For instance, the actress Tantoo Cardinal 1996 in the category Best Performance by an Actress in a Guest Role in a Dramatic Series honored with the award. Even the lead actress Tina Keeper received the following year an award.
