Northern Rhodesian general election, 1964

There were two rounds of voting for the Legislative Council, a main round, which chose the 65 seats and one for the reserved 10 seats. Black chose in the first round of voting, while whites were reserved. Other ethnicities were allowed to choose which seats they chose. The United National Independence Party won the election by 55 seats received. Their leader, Kenneth Kaunda was nordrhodesischer Prime Minister and led the country to independence in October of the same year. At this time he became president.

The elections of January 1964 related to the constitution of a Legislative Assembly ( Legislative Council) before independence on 24 October 1964. Distribution of seats was fixed from the outset so that 65 seats among blacks and 10 seats should be distributed among whites. After the elections, Kenneth Kaunda was appointed Prime Minister of Northern Rhodesia.
