Northwestern Region (Iceland)

Norðurland vestra ( German West of North Country ) is one of the eight regions of Iceland. It lies in the north of the country. Your head office is located in the municipality Sauðárkrókur Skagafjordur. On 1 January 2009 lived 7401 inhabitants in an area of 12,592 km ², its population density was thus less than 1 inhab. / Km ².

In June 2006, the city Siglufjörður changed with the incorporation to Fjallabyggð in the region Norðurland eystra, which is why the region lost population.
