Scopelosaurus ahlstromi

The Notosudidae (Size: noton = rear; Lat. , Sudis = a fish ) are a family of fish from the order of lizard fish relatives ( Aulopiformes ). They live, with the exception of the Northern and the Southern Polar Sea, in all oceans, mostly in deeper water layers.

Features

The fish are slim and, depending on the type, 11-31 cm long. You have no swim bladder. In spite of the habitat also lack light organs. Along the lateral line organ they have 42-66 scales. The larvae of Notosudidae have a bezahntes maxilla, all other larvae of Eidechsenfisch relatives are completely toothless.

Fins formula: 9-14 dorsal fin, anal fin 16-21, 10-15 pectoral fin.
