Nourhan Manougian

Nourhan I. Manougian or Manookian (Armenian Նուրհան Ա Մանուկյան Nurhan I Manugjan; born July 22, 1948 as Boghos Manougian in Aleppo, Syrian Republic) is the 97th Armenian Apostolic Patriarch of Jerusalem, since his election on January 24, 2013 to the head this Patriarchate of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

Life

Nourhan Manougian was born on July 22, 1948 in Aleppo, Syria. Entered in 1961 in the seminar of the Catholicosate of Cilicia and 1966 in the seminar of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, he was appointed deacon in 1968, 1971 and 1975 Hieromonachos archimandrite. In 1998 he became the number two of patriarchy by getting the function of the Great preacher or large Küsters.

After the death of Patriarch Torkom II on October 12, 2012 Nourhan was elected to the 97th Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem - by 17 votes, 15 for the other candidate and 2 abstentions. The authorities of the Holy Land, the King of Jordan and the Israeli government welcomed this choice allowed, respectively on 10 April and on 23 July 2013.
