Nouvi Zákon

The Nouvi Zákon is the first translation of the New Testament into Prekmurische. The text was translated by István Küzmics, a Slovenian Protestant pastor in Somogy county from the Greek and published in 1771 in Halle an der Saale in Saxony- Anhalt. The Nouvi Zákon was published four times, most recently 1928.

Küzmics used mainly KAJKAVIAN literature sources, but he also knew the translation of the Bible by Jurij Dalmatians and the writings of Trubar. Although at the time of István Küzmics the number of living in Hungary Slovenes was numerically small, it is succeeded by two merged prekmurischen dialects to create the structure of the Nouvi Zákons. He created neologisms and has idioms taken from external sources: the Kajkavian, from the Middle Slovenian, German, Hungarian, Latin, and probably also from Slovak and Czech.

At the same time Küzmics entwickte the theory that the Slavs in the counties of Vas and Zala Slovenes were, but their own language, the "Old Slovene language " or " Vandalic language" ( sztári szlovenszki jezik, vandalszki jezik ) speak, like the Slovenes in Hungary who use their own language and not the "language of Trubar ".

Miklós Küzmics, a Catholic priest and important prekmurischer writer, used 1780 Nouvi Zákon for another, legitimate Catholic translation of the New Testament, the Szvéti evangyeliomi.

Nouvi Zákon joins a Martin Luther or Gáspár Karolis and Jurij Dalmatin translations.
