Novi Kneževac

Novi Kneževac ( Serbian Cyrillic Нови Кнежевац ) is a city and municipality in the province of Vojvodina in Serbia.

History

The first written mention of Novi Kneževac dated from the 9th century, mentioned under the name " Kneža ". In the next century it was mentioned as " Kanjiša ". Until the arrival of the Ottomans, it was under the administration of the Kingdom of Hungary. In the 16th century, during the Ottoman administration, his name was known as " Turska Kanjiža " and there were already 30-40 houses in the settlement at the beginning of the 18th century

In the 18th century it became part of the Habsburg monarchy. 1922, the village under the name of Nova Kanjiža was known, in 1935 it was renamed in Novi Kneževac.
