Novogeorgievsk

Nowogeorgijiwsk (Ukrainian Новогеоргіївськ, to 1795 and from 1821 -1860 Krylov, 1795-1821 Aleksandrija; Russian Новогеоргиевск ) a city in Kirovohrad Oblast, Ukraine near the city was Tschyhyryn. She is now at the bottom of Krementschuker reservoir.

Nowogeorgiewsk originated in the early 17th century as a settlement at the same fortress at the mouth of Tjasmyn in the Dnepr. 1795 the site of the city was raised and received the new name Aleksandrija ( Александрия ). 1821 the company was renamed in Krylov ( Крылов ) and 1860 got the place back to its original name.

The city was 15 km west of Kremenchug and 1850 had 2,764 inhabitants. As a result, the population grew rapidly, so that in 1885 already lived 7893 and 1897 11,594 residents in the city. The majority of the city was then inhabited by Jews, who presented in 1897 57.1 % of the population, followed by Ukrainians ( 29.1 %), Russians ( 12.2% ), Poland ( 0.7 %) and Germans ( 0.2 %).

In the late 1950s the population was resettled by Nowogeorgiewsk, where the vast majority moved to the newly founded city Switlowodsk. In the course of 1962 taking place impoundment of the reservoir Krementschuker the city was flooded.
