Nowa Wieś, Oświęcim County

Nowa Wies ( German: Neudorf ) is a village in the powiat Oświęcimski in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. It is one of six Soltysships ( sołectwo ) the municipality Kety. In the years 1975 to 1998 the village belonged administratively to the province of Bielsko- Biala.

Geography

The village is located in southern Poland, one kilometer north of Kety and 16 kilometers south of Oświęcim, at the Soła and is part of the euro area Beskydy. The capital of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Kraków ( Cracow ) is located 55 kilometers to the east. The border with Slovakia is approximately 40 kilometers south. The village has 3,313 inhabitants (1 January 2011).

History

The place is first mentioned in 1456 and has repeatedly changed hands in the course of its history. King Casimir IV Jagiello gave it in 1485 for work done favors to Piotr Komorowski. In the second half of the 18th century it came into the hands of the Italian Kamila Dominik Gherri, a physician of King Stanisław August Poniatowski. In the nineteenth century it became property of Baron Edmund Larisch.
