Nurhan Süleymanoğlu

Nurhan Süleymanoğlu ( born February 28, 1971 in Kazakhstan as Nurhan Suleimanow ) is a retired Turkish boxer in the Light Welterweight. He won the 1993 Mediterranean Games in France, and in 1997 the Mediterranean Games in Italy. In addition, he won the 1993 European Championships in Bursa and in 1996 and 1998 Vice European Champion. Other successes he achieved a second place finish at the 1994 Goodwill Games in St. Petersburg, a second place at the World Championships in Berlin in 1995 and a second place at the World Cup 1998 in Beijing. 1996 and 2000, he participated in the Olympic Games.

Amateur career

In May 1993, he came at the World Championships with a bye and a points win against the Yugoslavs Vukašin Dobrašinović first knockout round, where he for the first time the Cuban Héctor Vinent subject. In September of the same year, however, he won the European Championships in Bursa. He won it against Jason Williams from Wales, Peter Richardson from England, Nordine Mouchi from France, poor Gevorkyan from Armenia and Oktay Urkal from Germany.

In August 1994, he won the silver medal at the Goodwill Games in St. Petersburg; he hit it, inter alia, also the German starter Enrico Thormann and later, double Olympic champion Oleg Saitow from Russia, before he again lost in the final against Héctor Vinent. Also at the World Championships in Berlin in 1995, he moved victories against Zoran Didanovic, Besik Wardselaschwili, Bulat Niasimbetow and Oktay Urkal again to the finals, where he again Héctor Vinent was beaten.

In April 1996 he was European Vice-Champion in Vejle after this time he was defeated in the finals Oktay Urkal. In August of the same year he represented his native country at the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, where he retired after a win against Aboubacar Diallo, in the second round against Héctor Vinent.

At the 1997 World Championships in Budapest, he retired in the first round against the two-time African champions Benamar Meskine. In May 1998, he again won the silver medal at the European Championships in Minsk. He was defeated in the final this time the Romanians Dorel Simion, after he had defeated the White Russians Sergei Bykowski, the Poland Jacek Bielski and the Danes Mehmet Erarslan. Another silver medal he won at the World Cup in June 1998 in Beijing. He only lost in the final of the Cubans Diógenes Luna.

In 1999, he retired at the World Championships in the USA already out in the first round against Lucian Bute from Romania. In May 2000, he defeated at the European Championships in Finland the Greek Spyridon Ioannidis and Poles Mariusz Cendrowski before he was defeated in the semifinals Alexander Leonov from Russia and got out with a bronze medal.

Afterwards he competed at the Summer Olympics in Sydney in 2000. After a win over Michael Strange from Canada, he lost in the second round against Sergei Bikowski from Belarus ( 8:8 ).

Professional career

The 1.75 m wide Links boom was 2001 in the USA Senior and lives in Houston, Texas. He won his first 14 fights, including six by knockout. He was on 15 January 2004 with a unanimous points victory over undefeated Mexican Jesús Soto Karass ( 11:0 ), Central American champion of the WBA light middleweight.

On 15 July 2004 he was defeated David Estrada ( 16:1 ) in the battle for the U.S. welterweight championship and thus suffered his first defeat as a professional. In February 2005, he lost against Carlos Quintana ( 18-0 ) for the first time prematurely and suffered a defeat against Terrance Cauthen point ( 30:3 ) in June 2006. On 3 March 2007, he went in the fight against José Varela ( 20:2 ) from Nicaragua in the second round co and ended his professional career in July 2007 with a score of 16:9.
