Nuristan Province

Nuristan ( Pashto / Dari: نورستان, German "Land of enlightenment ", before the Islamization of Kafiristan 1896 ) is a province ( velayat ) in eastern Afghanistan on the south side of the Hindu Kush. It was formed in 2001 from the northern parts of the provinces of Laghman and Kunar, and has 132,000 inhabitants. In this province about 25,000 Nuristani, so speakers of Nuristani languages ​​, the majority represent Pashtuns live.

The capital of Nuristan is Parun.
