Oakwood tube station

Oakwood is an aboveground station London Underground in the London Borough of Enfield. It is located in the Travelcard Zone 5 at the Bramley Road. In the year 2011 there were 2.74 million passengers these from the Piccadilly Line station.

The opening of the station took place on March 13, 1933, at that time still under the name Enfield West. As a possible alternative names also Oakwood, Merry Hills and East Barnet were in conversation. A little more than four months here was the northern terminus until the Piccadilly Line on July 31, 1933 reached its definitive endpoint Cockfosters. On May 3, 1934, the station in Enfield ( Oakwood ) was renamed and received on September 1, 1946 its present name.

Like the other stations in the northern part of the Piccadilly Line also those of Charles Holden has been designed in a modernist style. The station building has failed unusually large and spacious, despite the comparatively small passenger frequencies. Through the large windows with natural daylight falls into the ticket hall. On both side fronts of the building there is one shopping mall. Since 1971, the building is a listed building. First, it had the protection level Grade II, in 2011 this was increased because of the superior architectural significance to Grade II *. West of the station is one of the two main workshops of the Piccadilly Line with a parking area.
