2013, the station was chosen for the year small-town station.

History

As a replacement for the since 1850 partly Oberursel circulating horse-drawn omnibus line Homburger Bahn was opened after several failed attempts in 1860, which led to the eponymous Bad Homburg Frankfurt. At this distance Oberursel received a railway station. The station building was initially west of the level crossing of the Frankfurt highway. Later, the still existing station building was built east of the road.

1901, the Friedberg- Friedrichsdorf line was put into operation. She brought an advantage, since the purpose of increasing capacity and at the personal request of the emperor, the entire route from Frankfurt via Friedrichsdorf to Friedberg has been expanded over the years, two tracks from 1907 to 1910.

Even in 1899 the standard gauge mountain railway was opened to the Hohe Mark, who served the freight and passenger steam engines. In the eastern part of the train station a transition to Homburger web was made. 1910 was followed by the small railway line from Heddernheim that linked the mountain railway with the Frankfurt tram network.

From 1968, the line was operated from Frankfurt to Hohe Mark as U- tram with the number 24, later than A3. From 1978 the trains stopped in Oberursel U- Bahn line U3. For the subway originally single-track line was expanded to double track, which Oberursel as station lost its importance and for a turnaround facility was built. The transition to Homburger Bahn continued to be used, such as the delivery of the first series of subway cars of type U2. This rolled first on their own axes, following a derailment on a switch they were delivered on flat cars. The freight trains from steam engines of the series were drawn 50

On September 27, 1970, the route via Oberursel and Bad Homburg was electrified to Friedrichsdorf. Seven years later, on 8 May 1977 was also built a relay interlocking in Bad Homburg, which controls the range from white churches. Thus, the dispatcher interlocking on the east side of the station, the barrier post at Gattenhöferweg and Weichen-/Schrankenwärter on the Frankfurt highway were superfluous. 1974 began with the admission to the Frankfurt Transport Association ( FVV ) an S -Bahn -like forward operation from Frankfurt Central Station under the name R5 line. This laid the foundation for the beginning of 1978, running under the name still preserved line S5 train operation was laid. Since entering the FVV 1993 also features the Taunusbahn go to Frankfurt Central Station. These hold in Oberursel, but not in bull city and white churches.

Current situation

Buildings and facilities

Of the original many buildings are now only two exist: the former course -keepers' houses and the reception building. The only access to the island platform was to Hessentag 2011 an underpass, which ended directly in the hall of the reception building. After completion of the renovation work, a new approach was created. In addition to the times used by scouts cultivation was in the hall a kiosk.

Tracks

The Oberursel railway station on the railway Homburger is today only from the two track rails with island platform and two tracks changes. The tracks in the spacious cargo area were still present, but no longer connected to the Hessentag 2011 and largely overgrown. The transition to the U- Bahn network was already longer interrupted by a GSM-R radio mast. In the area between the loading crane and the reception building 200 different plant species have been recorded during a spontaneous count. Since the Hessentag the site is broke again.

Metro Station consists of a two-pronged breakpoint with subsequent turning and parking area, before branching off the route to the High Mark of the railway running parallel to Homburger tracks. The turning system was in operation until 2011; since the voluntary additional features of the VGF no longer drive to the station, it serves only as a reserve for operation.

Planning

In the reception building, a restaurant (Because the name was originally planned for the facility style Hemingway lounge. Complaints but had to change the name. ) Was opened in May 2012 with the name H- Lounge. The underpass was replaced by a barrier- free access with ramps in the area of present-day railway crossing the Frankfurt highway, which was closed for it. In the goods sector, a mixed development is planned from trade as a medical center and residential buildings.

For Hessentag 2011, the station area was originally to be widely modified. The U- Bahn tracks should be doing on the other side of the reception building - will be relocated to allow a Platform same transfer - at the Homburger Bahn. A few missing inches in gauge prevent this, however. Therefore, it was implemented because of the otherwise high cost only a simple solution. This provided accessible to rebuild the subway platforms and remodel the square in front of the reception building on the street side, which was also realized.

Connection

In Oberursel keep the trains of the S5 every half hour, which is compressed, Monday through Friday until after 18 clock to a quarter of an hour. For this, the through trains of Taunusbahn come from and to Frankfurt Central Station. The U3 served every 15 minutes on weekdays, evenings and Sundays every 30 minutes to the train station Oberursel.
