Ocotal

Ocotal is a town in northern Nicaragua in the department of Nueva Segovia about 225 km from Managua. It is 598 m, its surface area is 104 km ². Ocotal was in the twenties of the 20th century, a stronghold of the Army Augusto César Sandino of. It was bombed on 16 July 1927 in the Battle of Ocotal units of the U.S. Marine Corps from the air.

The city was founded in 1780 as Nueva Segovia de Reducción and has about 32,450 inhabitants, who live mainly from coffee and tobacco cultivation.
