Ocotlán, Jalisco

Ocotlan is a city in the Mexican state of Jalisco, with around 84,000 inhabitants. Ocotlan is about 1,530 meters above sea level and is the administrative seat and largest town of the homonymous municipality of Ocotlan.

The city was founded in 1530 took its name from the Aztec word ocōtl designating the Montezuma pine. The toponymy Ocotlan is a nearness to the pines and means something like: In the pines. The inhabitants of the city are called Ocotlenses.

The location northeast of the Chapalasees city is known for its furniture industry.

Part of the city was destroyed on October 2, 1847 by an earthquake.
