Ode to the Motherland

The praises of the Fatherland ( Gechang Zuguo ) is a famous patriotic song in the People's Republic of China. Lyrics and music were written by Wang Shen (1918-2007) in the period immediately after the founding of the People's Republic. It is sometimes called the second national anthem of China respectively.

When Mao Zedong on October 1, 1949, a sea of waving red five-star flag from Tian'anmen from proclaimed the People's Republic of China, he said: " The Chinese people have stood up! " ( against invasion and foreign exploitation ). This was the inspiring moment for millions of Chinese patriots and has remained so to this day. Wang Shen started this song in late September 1950 to write, shortly after he had again seen the sea of waving red five-star flag at the Tian'anmen Square during the preparation time for the 1st State birthday. Text and notes of the song were officially published on 15 September 1951 in the People's Daily ( Renmin Ribao ).
