Oisu ( German Oiso ) is a village (Estonian alevik ) in the Estonian rural municipality in the district of Türi Järva.

Description and History

Oisu located 14 kilometers south of Paid. The village has 410 inhabitants (as of 2006).

The estate of Oisu was founded in the 17th century. 1851, the present manor house was built in the style of late classicism. The central part of the mansion was two stories, the two side wings on one level. Last owner before the expropriation in the course of the Estonian land reform in 1919 was the German Baltic Baroness Amalie noise of Traubenberg. In 1912 a large part of land ownership was acquired by a Russian bank, which divided the area and sold Estonian farmers.

From the 1960s to the 1980s, the mansion served as the administration building for the local collective farm Estonia. In addition, in the Culture House and the Museum of the place were housed. The mansion was to be strongly modified. The side wings were raised to two storeys.

Survived largely is the three -hectare park of the estate of Oisu with its historic trees. Inside is a created by architect Allan Murdmaa and the sculptor Juhan Paberit granite monument, dedicated to all Estonians who died 1918-1949 " for freedom".

Opened in the summer of 1995 Municipal Museum Oisu ( Oisu vallamuuseum ) shows numerous exhibits on local history of the place. Part of the museum is the writer Jaan Lintrop (1885-1962) and dedicated to the Estonian racing driver and politician Toivo Asmer (* 1947).
