Oksøy Lighthouse

Oksøy fyr is a lighthouse in Norway, just south of Kristiansand. The plant was put into operation in 1832 and, together with the lighthouses Odderøya fyr fyr and Grønningen a coherent navigational aid on the south coast in Vest -Agder.

The original plant

The first fire on Oksøy was built 23 meters high and made of bricks. This fire was first lit on 25 November 1832. Oksøy was the first beacon with a lens in Norway; it was the world's third plant, which introduced the system.

The present structure

The original tower was replaced in 1900 by a new, 36 -meter-high iron tower, which is among the highest in the country. The reach of today's fire is 19 nautical miles.

Oksøy fyr is owned by the Norwegian state. The station was automated in 2004 and can be operated without personnel. The Lighthouse is a listed building, the surrounding area is now a nature reserve.
