Olaf Barda

Olaf Barda ( born Martinius Olaf Olsen, born August 17, 1909 in Kristiania, † May 2, 1971 in Oslo) was a Norwegian chess player.

Barda won the Norwegian Championship in 1930, 1947, 1948, 1952, 1953 and 1957 and was the first Norwegian in 1952 the title of International Master by FIDE. He represented Norway also at the Chess Olympiad 1930 in Hamburg. His son Yngvar Barda (1935-1999) played for Norway at the Chess Olympiad in Moscow in 1956, was there but only in seven games as a substitute for use.

Also called correspondence chess players Olaf Barda made ​​a name. He was Norwegian correspondence chess champion in 1946 and 1949/1950 and was at the 4th Correspondence Chess World Championship ( 1950-1953 ) at least fourth. In 1953 he was appointed Grand Master in correspondence chess.

He wrote the book Sjakk! Historikk, teori, strategic (Oslo 1943, 2nd edition 1957).
