Olaf Mertelsmann

Olaf Mertelsmann ( born January 15, 1969) is a German historian who ( German: Dorpat ) at the University of Tartu teaches contemporary history.

Life

Mertelsmann attended from 1979-1988 by Dietrich Bonhoeffer -Gymnasium in Quick Born in Hamburg, and then studied at the University of Hamburg in the years 1990 to 1995, the subjects of history, German, Finno - Ugric Studies and Education and graduated with the first state exam for teaching in history and from German. He received a doctorate in modern history at the same university. In the years 1996 to 1998 he was an assistant at the University of Tartu. From 1998 to 2002 he was the first professor at the State Pedagogical University of Novosibirsk in Novosibirsk, Siberia, and later as part of the DAAD exchange program professor at the Novosibirsk State University. In 2003, he returned as a lecturer back to his alma mater.

Since 2003 Mertelsmann works at the University of Tartu with a focus on Soviet history and modern history.

Prizes and awards

  • 2002: DAAD scholarship for Novosibirsk.
  • 2004-2006: DFG research fellowship for Tartu.
  • 2008: Fellowship ( Fellowship ) of the Adam Smith Research Foundation at the University of Glasgow.
