Olav Aukrust

Olav Aukrust ( born January 21, 1883 in Lom, † November 3, 1929 ) was a Norwegian poet and teacher. He is considered a pioneer of Nynorsk as a literary language. His poetry is characterized by motifs of folk poetry, images of the Norwegian peasant life and nature symbolism. He was also influenced by Rudolf Steiner's Anthroposophy.

Life

Aukrust was born in the city, in Gudbrandsdalen Municipality Lom, where he grew up on his parents' farm. First poems he wrote in his youth. After school he studied, and 1908 teachers. First, he taught at the elementary school in Folldal, and later at the community college of Østfold. Finally, in 1915 he founded a school itself, the community college Dovre. Aukrust, however, devoted more and more of his poetry, which is why the school was closed again soon. Aukrust died in 1929 of a stroke.
