Olav V Land is an area on the belonging to Svalbard island of Spitsbergen.

Geography

Olav V Land is located in the east of the main island of Svalbard. It is bounded on the east by the Hinlopen Strait, which separates Spitsbergen from Nordaustland. Upstream are still some islands, including Wilhelmøya. In the southeast of Olav V Land is the narrow and often frozen Heleysundet. You cross this, you can reach the island Barentsøya. In the south, bordering Olav V of land to the innermost foothills of Storfjorden. The glaciers Negribreen and Akademikerbreen form the boundary to the Sabine country. Transparentbreen, Opalbreen and Nordenskiöldbreen form the border with Bünsow country in the southwest. To the east lies Dickson Land on the straits between the Billefjorden and the Wijdefjorden. At the southern tip of Wijdefjorden is the Indre Wijdefjorden National Park. The northern boundary to Ny- Friesland form Lomonosovfonna, Keplerbreen and Oslobreen. Northeast is limited by the Vaigattbogen Olav V Land.

Olav V land is uninhabited and largely covered by glaciers, the largest of which is the Kvitbreen. In the southwest run some frequently traveled with tourist routes, from Longyearbyen to pyramids and Newtontoppen.

Etymology

Olav V Land is according to Olav V, King, appointed by Norway from 1957 to 1991.
