Stadium

The stadium is since 1864 the home of Lancashire County Cricket Club, but was since 1856 the home ground of Manchester Cricket Club. The first Test match was held here in 1884. It lies on the Talbot Road in the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford in Greater Manchester, close to the football stadium Old Trafford. Usually, it offers 15,000 spectators for international matches, such as test matches, will increase the seating capacity to 22,000. The two ends of the pitch hot Stretford End in the west and Brian Statham End (formerly the Warwick Road End ) to the east.

The three-story pavilion ( club house ) is the oldest part of the stadium and dates from 1895. Unlike other stages of the clubhouse is parallel to the cricket pitch, which just offers to club members a bad view of the game.

After originally a move was being considered in a new cricket stadium, they decided on a thorough modernization of the stadium, which should be in time for the next Ashes series in 2013, completed by the end of 2012. The whole 2011 season, the stadium was closed because of it. In the course of the renovation, the pitch will be created and rotated 90 degrees in the north-south direction.
