Oleg Atkov

Oleg Jurjewitsch Atkow (Russian Олег Юрьевич Атьков; born May 9, 1949 in Chworostjanka, Kuibyshev Oblast ) is a retired Soviet cosmonaut.

Life

After Atkow had graduated 1973, the first Medical Institute Ivan M. Sechenov Moscow, he received his doctorate in 1978 as a Doctor of Medicine at the Academy of Medical Sciences in the Department of Cardiology.

Already incorporated into the Soviet space program in 1977, Atkow was selected on 9 March 1983 by the State between relevant local Commission as a cosmonaut. His basic training was undertaken from June to September 1983. Atkow flew as Research Cosmonaut of the third crew Salyut 7 EO -3 to Salyut 7 in the function of an onboard doctor.

After his space flight Oleg Jurjewitsch Atkow was at the Institute of Clinical Cardiology busy (as Professor since 1991). He was appointed Deputy Director of the Department of Space Life Sciences at the International Space University ( ISU) at the Strasbourg Strasbourg Central Campus in Illkirch -Graffenstaden, 1989; he held until 1996 this position. From 2000, he worked as a specialist for telemedicine at the European Commission.

Atkow is married and has one child.
