The Olenjok (Russian Оленёк ) is a 2292 km long stream in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Republic of Sakha ( Yakutia) in northern Siberia ( northern Russia, Asia).

Course

The Olenjok rises in the northeast part of the Middle Siberian highlands on the Wiljuiplateau. Its source is located about 200 km north of the south running river nearby village Wiljui Ekonda.

Russian standards, a few miles below its source the river reaches the in Russia Sakha Republic, where he tortuous first flows in an easterly and then in a northeasterly direction through the mountains. In its lower reaches it enters the eastern areas of the North Siberian Lowland, where it flows past the west to the Czekanowskibergen.

After flowing through the lowlands it flows about 220 km west of the Lena Delta in a 475 km ² large estuary north of Ust- Olenjok at the Olenjokbucht in the Laptev Sea, a marginal sea of the Arctic Ocean.

Among the tributaries of the Olenjok include Arga - Sala, Bur, Ukukit, Birekte, Kuoika, Bejentschime, Buolkalach and Siligir.

Navigability and towns

The fish-rich Olenjok is navigable from Suchana over a distance of around 965 km. On its shores lie downstream regarded among other places Olenjok, Suchana, Taimilyr, Sklad, Buolkalach and Ust- Olenjok.
