Olga Morozova

Olga Morozova Wassiljewna (Russian: Ольга Васильевна Морозова; born February 22, 1949 in Moscow, Russia) is a former tennis player, who played for the Soviet Union.

Career

Olga Morozova won in 1965 at the age of 16, the individual title at the Junior Wimbledon Championships. She was also the first Russian female tennis player who reached a final of a major tournament ( Italian Open 1972). At the height of her career, she met in 1974, respectively in the final of the French Open and Wimbledon, but lost in two finals against Chris Evert. The Russian was also the first player of their country that could get a Grand Slam title. In 1974 she defeated the US-American Evert at the French Open, the French Gail Sherriff and the German Katja Ebbinghaus in three sets 6:4, 2:6, 6:1.

There followed three finals in women's doubles ( Australian Open and French Open in 1975 and U.S. Open 1976), and two in mixed doubles ( Wimbledon 1968 and 1970 ).

The short career of the Russian was terminated because of the policy of the USSR against South Africa in 1977. At this time she stepped back from the professional tour and began her work as a trainer, when she was responsible for the British Tennis National Team among others.
