Olin Chaddock Wilson

Olin Chaddock Wilson (* January 13, 1909, † 13 July 1994) was an American astronomer.

Wilson studied astronomy and physics at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1934 he received his doctorate at the California Institute of Technology.

He was a research assistant at the Mount Wilson Observatory.

He discovered stellar activity cycles analogous to the 11 -year sunspot cycle of the Sun.

Together with Vainu BAPPU 1957 he discovered a correlation between the width of Ca II lines in stellar spectra and the luminosity, the Wilson - BAPPU effect.

In 1977 he was awarded the Henry Norris Russell Lectureship and 1984 with the Bruce Medal.
