Oliver A. Morse

Oliver Andrew Morse ( born March 26, 1815 in Cherry Valley, New York, † April 20, 1870 in New York City ) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1857 and 1859 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Oliver Andrew Morse was born about five weeks after the end of the British - American War in Cherry Valley in Otsego County. He went to classical antiquity Sciences and graduated in 1833 from Hamilton College in Clinton. Then he studied law. After receiving his license to practice law, he began to practice in Cherry Valley. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1856 for the 35th Congress Morse was in the 19th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Jonas A. Hughston on March 4, 1857. Since he gave up for reelection in 1858, he retired after the March 3, 1859 out of the Congress.

After his time Congress, he worked as a writer and translator. On April 20, 1870, he died in New York City and was buried in Cherry Valley on the same cemetery.
